How To Make The Perfect Mulled Cider

Fall has arrived. The leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and the temperature is starting to dip. And as the weather gets a bit chillier, there is nothing better than a glass of warm, mulled cider to celebrate the season! It’s also an incredibly easy drink to make, so whether you’re just looking for something warm to perk you up, or you’re entertaining guests, a good mulled cider is always a crowd pleaser. Here's the recipe we use at Toast!:

½ gallon of fresh cider (look for unfiltered, no extra sugar if available)
1 orange (cut into quarters)
5 cinnamon sticks
10 whole cloves

And for those of you with a well stocked spice cabinet, you can also add:

20 all spice berries (optional)
5 cardamon pods (optional)
2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional)

To make your cider, combine all your ingredients in a saucepan, and simmer it at a low heat for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. That’s it. You’re done! Unless of course you want to turn that mulled cider into a delicious spiked cider, in which case simply add a shot of your choice of whiskey or rum to each glass!
